Open Public Transport Data

The Open Public Transport Data (OpenPTD) project aims to create an open, freely redistributed, freely modified database of public ground-transport information. That includes primarily the subway/metro, trams, buses, local trains, etc.

The project was created on March 05, 2010, and is at the moment in planning stage. There is a SourceForge page, where release files and project artifacts will be held. Visit that page for mailing list and forum information, too.

Update: Perhaps I hurried to much. There seems to be something similar already, the GTFS Data Exchange is a very similar effort, although the licensing of the data is not apparent. I will evaluate the site and perhaps just withdraw OpenPTD.
